Our Ashfield Schist is Unit 3 (hardest) of the Goshen Schist formation. Split with chisels along it's natural bedding planes, this stone has been used in landscape applications in New England for hundreds of years. The color tends to be a silvery, gray-blue with occasional bronzing. The hardness gives the stone crisp, clean edge faces, perfect for walls and caps. The cleft surface has a unique corduroy texture that provides natural traction for steps, walkways and patios. We have a quillotine that can snap our stone into various shelf depths to make a handsome veneer stone, step treads and coping as well. Please have a look at our galleries.
